Scope:

Overburden removal and replacement for mineral sand dredging operations.

Project Features:

MCG was the operator of a joint venture responsible for removal and replacement of over 2,000,000 bcm of topsoil and subsoil, as well as 16,000,000 bcm of overburden. The operations required careful planning and coordination of topsoil and overburden removal to ensure that the upper level soils were stockpiled and reused in rehabilitation. The overburden was scheduled to be removed and replaced behind the dredge to coincide with the rate of advance of the dredge. On completion of sections of dredge removal and overburden replacement the upper soil levels were replaced using laser technology to ensure the original landform profile was re-established.
